Dredging Up Daisies
HEY LITTLE GIRL
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

Hey little girl
What are you doing with him
Don't you know who he is
Don't you care
Hey little girl
Where are you going so fast
Afraid that it may not last
If you don't run

If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up
If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up

Hey little girl
Don't think so fast
Let his words rest on you a while
You'll see he's a nothing but a liar
Hey little girl
I know you're no fool
He's just gotten to you
Listen and the truth will show through

If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up
If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up

Hey little girl
Won't you stay and talk awhile
I've got some things to tell you
About when I was his fool
Hey little girl
You may be surprised
I was once just like you
Now I'm his has been too

If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up
If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up

If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up
If he's all there is then you end up what once was
I know for sure he's out for one thing to use you all up

REMINISCING
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

Wild days filled our youth
All our dreams could come true
There was no one we had to listen to
Too bad the road we saw wasn't the one we took

Those days are long past
Thought they'd always last
Didn't see the sky falling thru the trees
You went your way
I went my way
We'll meet again someday you'll see

Hanging out on Sandy Hook
Racing cars and drinking beer
Long term toll of a reckless youth
Chances we never thought we took

Those days are long past
Thought they'd always last
Didn't see the sky falling thru the trees
You went your way
I went my way
We'll meet again someday you'll see

I remember all the fun we had
In a time that was ours
I remember all the talks we shared
I could sure use one of those right now

Cause those days are long past
Thought they'd always last
Didn't see the sky falling thru the trees
You went your way
I went my way
We'll meet again someday you'll see

THOSE THINGS
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

There's an old man in an old coat
He is crossing the street
I wonder where he's going

I saw him disappear behind those trees
He was gone so quickly
I wonder where he's gotta be

He is just a whisper on the wind
He thinks he means so much
But he can't mean a thing
Without the whole world around him
There are lives he touches with his deeds
He can build peace or create devastation
He can do those things
Yes he can do those things

Preacher tell me where I went wrong
You seem to have all the salvation
Leader tell me where to go
You seem to make all the decisions

But your wife still wonders where you've been
At 3 in the morning, are you committing sin
Your axe still grinds, your back still breaks
You'll burn for those mistakes
Not even you can be saved

You are just a whisper on the wind
You think you mean so much
But you can't mean a thing
Without the whole world around you
There are lives you touch with your deeds
You can build peace or create devastation
You can do those things
Yes you can do those things

Then we build such monstrosities
Then we call it good

We are just whispers on the wind
We think we mean so much
But we can't mean a thing
Without the whole world around us
There are lives we touch with our deeds
We can build peace or create devastation
We can do those things
Yes we can do those things

TOUCH
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

It is never what I think it is
Who can tell me what I see
I want to say it will stay the same
But there are too many possibilities

It is never clear, the things we see
Through eyes too full of tears
Fears flowing endlessly
Were these our fatalities

When will I see through their sanity
They will save me from my mistakes and all my vanity
Can they touch me with their love, their life, their righteousness
What I will be, I will be
With them
Or without them

Sometimes there's not much to see
Looking through a window
Fogged by the rain
Beaten down to heavily to feel a thing

Impatience and experience
Taught us to wait our turn in line
Feeling in our hearts
We are meant to be something more

When will you see through their sanity
They will save you from your mistakes and all your vanity
But will they touch you with their love, their life, their righteousness
What you will be, you will be
With them
Or without them

When will I see through their sanity
They will save me from my mistakes and all my vanity
But will they touch me with their love, their life, their righteousness
What I will be, I will be
With them or without them
With them or without them

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS WIN
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

You'll be falling down again
I don't care what they told you
I don't want to hear what they have to say
Days of glam and glory are gone  gone

You only stay on top for a little while
The air's too thin and the journey's too hard
You're only fooling yourself
You can't always win, you can't always win

You'll remember on your way down
The ones you passed on your way up
The ones you treated with more or less respect
The ones who said it was just your luck, luck

You only stay on top for a little while
The air's too thin and the journey's too hard
You're only fooling yourself
You can't always win, you can't always win

Sometimes we ask for the craziest things
What we think we'll receive is not what we will be getting
Fame, fortune, keeping with the Jones and the Smiths
They all have the things we want and what we wish
But when tomorrow comes and
The one little thing we all need is gone gone
Where will we go
Where will we go

Be careful what you ask for, the deals you make
Some devil's just around the bend with a deal that
Can't be beat, he'll steal your soul if you let him
He'll show you the way down, down

You only stay on top for a little while
The air's too thin and the journey's too hard
You're only fooling yourself
You can't always win, you can't always win
You can't always win, you can't always win

YOU SAID
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

I have seen the world in peace and I have seen the world at war
I have seen leaders rise and I have seen leaders fall, but

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would hold me close and
You said you would be mine forever now
I wasn't looking I should have known

I have heard all the lies the tabloids spread inside our heads
I have heard the cries of people whose lives have been deprived, but

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would hold me close and
You said you would be mine forever now
I wasn't listening I should have known

I have watched the evening news and all the things that we can do
I have watched all the hate we propagate and all the time we waste, but

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would hold me close and
You said you would be mine forever now
I wasn't watching I should have known

With all the things I have seen and all the places I have been
You would think I would know when I was being taken in, but

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would hold me close and
You said you would be mine forever well
I believed you but I should have known

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would never go and
You said all the things I needed
If I was listening I would have known

You said you would love me forever and
You said you would hold me close and
You said you would be mine forever now
Forever ended I should have known
EVERYONE'S QUILT
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

Everyone could hear the calling
So everyone came
They heard so many had fallen

Things will never be the same
The pain is such great pain
And the tears never go away

If you held on to one thought
I hope that it was love
I pray the love I gave you was enough

Your memory can release me
At times
When I think of your smile

This sadness reaches millions
It tells of
Loss too real, so many feel

If you held on to one thought
I hope that it was love
I pray the love I gave you was enough

Some day soon things will change
Until then we are all
Covered by the quilt we made

If you held on to one thought
I hope that it was love
I pray the love I gave you was enough

WHY
© 1999 Sharon Anne Allitt

We walked a thousand miles of beach
We shared a thousand dreams
Now you're gone I want to tell you
I'll make it through without you

At times we all fly
We can soar high
At times we all cry
And we wonder why

Maybe you loved me
Maybe not
Maybe I tried too hard
Maybe you never tried
Maybe I tempted fate
Maybe you escaped
Maybe I let go
Maybe you said so

There are times when it is hard to love
When trust just isn't enough
Time can heal most wounds
Time can be hell too

At times we all fly
We can soar high
At times we all cry
And we wonder why
